Unpacking the acronyms
Let’s explain the acronyms in the title of this product.
MPS (in this case) means Multi-Purpose Stacker.
XL means extra large.
XLS refers to extra-long sheet, that is, media up to 1.2 metres long.
What does the new Plockmatic MPS XL (XLS Stacker) do?
The new XLS stacker for Xerox Versant and Iridesse helps you run XLS media (up to 1.2 metres) more productively, accurately, and profitably. Plockmatic designed it for applications such as landscape brochures, calendars, large format direct mail, folding cartons, panoramics, banners and multi-up jobs.
The new stacker will run at the rated speed of your press and with what Xerox call ‘tight stack quality’. The stacking table is motorised to help manage and lift stacks and is easily transportable for offline finishing; just undock and move.
Plockmatic MPS XL specifications
The Plockmatic MPS XL receives automated setup instructions from the press to ensure end-to-end optimisation and elimination of bottlenecks during printing. Your Production Ready Finisher Plus re-registers media before stacking for the best results. Once in the stacker, auto-tamping and targeted airflow technology settle the sheets accurately.
The paper size is sent from the press to the MPS XL stacker as part of the setup instructions. These instructions trigger the stacker to position trail edge joggers and automatically set the ideal settings for the paper size (if the airflow is set to ‘auto’). Alternatively, you can manually adjust airflow to suit conditions. At the time of writing, this is a key differentiator for the Xerox version compared to competitor variations.
The stacker offers reliable stacking for 210 mm x 210 mm up to 330 mm x 1.2 m (8.3″ x 8.3″, 13″ x 47.2″ respectively). Weight-wise, this extends to 400 gsm.
The maximum load is 40 kg (88.2 lbs) or a maximum stack height of 330 mm (13″). For the very largest sheets (of 1.2 m), the stack height is a maximum of 140 mm (5.5″); bear in mind that the maximum stack height varies depending on the length of the printed media.
The stacker is motorised to lift heavy stacks to the height you need. When you finish each job, a spring-loaded pedal makes it easy to undock the stacker table and wheel it away to its next position in the print shop.
Who is the Plockmatic MPS XL Stacker for?
The MPS XL Stacker could be a great match for you if:
You have invested in vacuum feeding for your Iridesse or Versant press
You print more than a handful of longer sheets up to 1.2 m
You need reliable handling of stock up to 400 gsm
You require a simple way to transport paper stacks for delivery or offline finishing within the print room (you may choose to purchase more than one to interchange stackers and optimise workflow)
Plockmatic MPS XL for Xerox Iridesse Production Press
To work with the Iridesse, you must have the Interface Module and the Production Ready Finisher Plus. This is because the Finisher enables stapling, optional punching and accurate transport into the stacker.
You can place additional finishing between the Interface Module and the Production Ready Finisher Plus.
Inline booklet-making is the only inline capability not possible with the MPS XL Stacker; the transport area for XLS sheets sits where booklet-making capability would usually live. Instead, you could complete booklet-making after stacking.
You don’t need Xerox High Capacity XLS Vacuum Feeders at the feeding end. However, First Copy advises that you do to ensure optimum speed and productivity.
No software changes or updates are required at the Fiery DFE for new installs.
