When we wrote this article, the Versant 180 was the current model. You can now access this technology with a Xerox Versant 280.
Would you like to offer White, Gold, Silver and Clear? How about Fluorescent Cyan, Fluorescent Magenta and Fluorescent Yellow? Have you been waiting for Adaptive CMYK+ technology to hit the Versant range?
Wait no longer!
If you have a Xerox Versant 180 (V180), you are almost ready to move into the embellishment and CMYK+ market. Today’s exciting announcements mean you can add one or more Adaptive CMYK+ Toner Kits and offer metallic and fluorescent embellishments in your print. And you’re not limited to just a few stocks.
The profit margin on digital print enhancement can help printers achieve 50-400% more than on regular CMYK, with buyers prepared to spend up to 89% more on special effect printing. (Xerox figures, 30 June 2020).
With speciality printing being one of the fastest-growing digital print segments, we expect significant interest in this news, so please read on to find out more or call us now.
Which Toner Kits are available?
The Xerox Vivid Toner Kit delivers four speciality spot colours:
The Xerox Fluorescent Toner Kit brings:
- Fluorescent Cyan
- Fluorescent Magenta
- Fluorescent Yellow
- Black (you use your existing black toner in this position)
You can choose to invest in just the vivid (metallic) kit or both together. The kits include toners, Xerographic Drawer, Dispenser Assembly and a storage cart.
Adding these kits triples the versatility of your hardware investment. Just ‘swap and go’! There is no need to sacrifice the advantages of short-run jobs for high-value opportunities. If you are lucky enough to have more than one press, you can even run them with different kits side by side.
How do I swap Toner Kits?
Removing your CMYK toner set and replacing it with your Speciality Toners takes about ten minutes (less after some practice). No flushing is necessary. Your kit comes with a three-bay cart, providing safe and convenient storage for all your toner sets. It’s industry-first affordable flexibility.
See how it works in this video from the Xerox Support YouTube channel:
White replaces Black, Gold replaces Cyan, Silver replaces Magenta, and Clear replaces Yellow. These are deliberate choices and you cannot reposition the toners. With Versant’s inbuilt technology, you achieve a consistent density of white and tighter control over gold and silver for more sparkle.
Is my current Xerox Versant compatible?
You need a Xerox Versant 180 80-page-per-minute press running EFI Fiery software FS200 or FS200 Pro and higher to use the new Adaptive CMYK+ Toner Kits.
Xerox Versant 80 presses are unfortunately not compatible. Still, if you would like to consider upgrading to take advantage of vivid and fluorescent colour opportunities, we would love to speak to you about a pre-loved 180 or a new Versant 280.
Which applications benefit from Adaptive CMYK+ technology?
A great deal of them! We recommend starting with greetings cards, flyers, invitations, posters, business cards, and gift vouchers – the opportunities are endless.
Would you like something to shine or glow? Would you like something metallic to shimmer from the page? The technology can do just that – differentiate yourself and your products.
Imagine white toner on black envelopes, fluorescent text across a magazine cover, packaging with a sparkle. Now you can do it all.
Should I use Adaptive CMYK+ Toner Kits in isolation?
You could if you wanted to. There are, for example, some great examples of single spot colours or fluorescents with black. However, you don’t need to limit yourself. You could blend your Fluorescent Colours just as you would standard CMYK or print multiple spot colours together and create metallic effects with overlapping colours.
And why stop there? You could even perform a manual second pass. For example, you could put metallics over traditional CMYK. With the right design, additional passes can result in even more stunning prints.

Do fluorescent toners require UV light to ‘show up’?
No, fluorescent toners are attention-grabbing, even in normal light. However, the colours ‘pop’ even more when exposed to UV light. Xerox fluorescent toners go further than competitor options such as ‘neon’ toners that don’t have true fluorescent reactions.
Where can I get additional specification sheets and design guides?
Contact us; we’d be delighted to help. As Xerox say, “11 colours…a million possibilities!” Alternatively, visit xerox.co.uk/creative
Can I run CMYK+ with FreeFlow Core?
Yes, you can run CMYK+ with FreeFlow Core – you can get Accelerator Packs that are a boon to those with CMYK+ toners. Accelerators make it easy to upsell customers with speciality enhancements that you can place at the click of a button.
Convert text of a specific size and colour to a speciality colour. Convert a more traditional spot colour to a metallic colour. These adaptations can be mapped easily, even without a specialist designer.
Is there a CMYK+ Profit Estimator Tool?
Yes, the profit estimator tool makes evaluating the best pricing for a particular customer job much easier. Contact us for more information.
Do Adaptive CMYK+ Toner Kits slow the Xerox Versant 180 down?
No. Your press will continue to run as quickly as it usually does. Please remember that rated speed with all stocks requires the Versant 180 Performance Package or All Stock Rated Speed capability.
Can I get these kits and/or effects on other Xerox presses?
We offer an impressive portfolio of presses with Adaptive CMYK+ options.
At entry level, we have the Xerox PrimeLink and retrofitted Xerox C60.
At the higher end, the Xerox Iridesse prints up to six toners in line, two of them being white, gold, silver or clear.
Right at the top, we offer the Xerox iGen 5 Press, which provides additional options of white, clear and fluorescent yellow dry inks, as well as Gamut Extension colours (orange, green and blue) that enable excellent colour matching.
