FuturePrint look to the future with a second Xerox Versant

FuturePrint (Northampton) Limited has worked with First Copy for over 10 years, and when the time came to upgrade a device from another manufacturer, we were pleased to help the team consider the Xerox Versant 4100.

Read on to learn about the family-run Northampton printer, and why they decided the Versant 4100 was the obvious choice to help manage ever-increasing print demand.

In 2021, FuturePrint acquired another local printer, Print Projects. In merging the two companies, FuturePrint Director Darren Wrighting and Print Projects Director Max Bishop combined a wealth of experience and knowledge to form the ultimate print team.

What can FuturePrint produce?

The short answer is: anything!

FuturePrint offer the full design and print service; ‘from initial concept and design through to artwork and beautifully finished products.’

FuturePrint use their Xerox devices for everything from cartons and packaging to flyers, wedding invites, business cards, posters, and much more.

The Xerox devices are also especially good for label and sticker printing, as well as printing on synthetic stocks.

Before print, the FuturePrint team also offer an in-house design service, with the aim of helping adjust customer ideas to get the best printed result, particularly with translating 2D designs to packaging and cartons.

The team also have a whole host of different finishing options and a traditional litho press, so FuturePrint are happy to take on any challenge and help bring any print dreams to life.

FuturePrint and First Copy

First Copy are proud to have worked with FuturePrint for over 10 years, and we were also suppliers to Max’s company Print Projects prior to the merge. The recent installation of the Versant 4100 is FuturePrint’s fifth Xerox device from First Copy, and it joins the Versant 3100 and Xerox C60 that are still in situ.

FuturePrint’s account manager at First Copy, Laurie Ryan, is the first to admit that there’ve been a few issues over the years, such as problems with the Versant 3100 after it was moved to the new FuturePrint site.

However, the First Copy helpdesk team were able to help immediately, and despite the unavoidable delays in manufacturer service caused by the global pandemic, Max and Darren have been more than happy with the support from First Copy to get the device up and running again.

The Second Xerox Versant

In 2016, Max and Print Projects decided to look at other digital presses available on the market and ultimately decided that another manufacturer’s device better met their requirements at the time.

Following the business acquisition by FuturePrint in 2021, Print Projects’ device was moved to the FuturePrint site to work alongside the Xerox Versant 3100, until the time arrived that Max and Darren had to decide on an upgrade.

Account manager Laurie Ryan was happy to help the team explore their options, and ultimately, they decided on a Xerox Versant 4100.

Both Max and Darren felt that it was the obvious choice, as the Xerox 4100 was once again the market leader in terms of technology, it was the best device for the type and volume of print they were producing, and of course, they were keen to continue working with First Copy.

The Versant 4100 is now the studio’s primary digital press, as the added Dual High Capacity XLS Vacuum Feeder means the FuturePrint team can produce even higher volume jobs in a shorter window of time. The Versant 3100 sits next to its younger sibling, stepping in to help during busy periods.

Sustainable Print and Packaging

Sustainability and energy efficiency can be difficult for many professional printers, as their businesses are entirely reliant on electricity for digital presses and sourcing a lot of different paper stocks.

FuturePrint, however, are an excellent example of what printers can do to become more climate-conscious with a host of achievable green initiatives:

FuturePrint actively encourage customers to avoid plastics, particularly when it comes to producing cartons and packaging. The team are always happy to advise customers on more sustainable and affordable alternatives.
FuturePrint no longer buy-in plastic boxes for business cards. Instead, they cut and fold boxes in-house.
FuturePrint use paper packaging tape on boxes, rather than traditional plastic-based tape.
A number of FuturePrint customers already request 100% recycled paper, and elsewhere FuturePrint use FSC-certified paper.
FuturePrint recycle all possible waste materials, certified by J&G Environmental in 2023
FuturePrint engage with the Carbon Capture programme, which has resulted in them raising over £1.57 million for Woodlands Trust, planting 420,000 trees, and capturing 96,000 tonnes of CO2.

And last but not least, FuturePrint now have a number of electric vehicles within the business, both for staff and deliveries

Supporting Motor Neurone Disease Association

FuturePrint are proudly based in Northampton, as they have been for over 53 years, and the majority of their customers are located in the county.

They often support the local community, and recently, FuturePrint have worked closely with the Northampton branch of the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

FuturePrint regularly help the charity with design and print work, but they also host fundraising events, such as a Charity Golf Day in May.

Director Max Bishop also ran a marathon to raise money for MNDA, an achievement the whole team are proud of!
